PLAY UP is a baby and child clothing brand from Portugal - with 100% Portuguese design and manufacturing, PLAY UP is proud of its strong textile heritage and its proven know-how. When creating their collections PLAY UP is associated to national artists - privileging the manual arts that, because they require a greater focus, attention and time, invoke slow-making and distance themselves from the frenetic pace of industrial production. PLAY UP's ambition is to be perceived by its customers as a Portuguese brand for baby and child clothing with original design and certified quality. The mission is to produce high quality garments through innovation and based on the principles of sustainability, social responsibility & creating value.
With the fall/winter 2019 collection 'EMBRACING SLOW MAKING', we enter on the second chapter of our collaboration with the new generation of Portuguese artists and creators - their work inspires us by the ability to cross the techniques of artisan production with nowadays aesthetics, resulting in unique creations.
We have chosen the art of knitting for its ancestry, timelessness and because this practice has become a true manifesto. There are huge groups dedicated to this theme, as well as communities that gather together to knit. While knitting, we develop a process of abstract creation that by taking considerable dedication and patience leads us to meet with ourselves - the repetitive movements create a feeling of relaxation and well-being. The inherent generosity of hours spent in a garment results in valuable creations.
PLAY UP X OLIVE TREES + MOON
Catarina Seixas - author of the 'olive trees + moon' blog - is our invited artisan to collaborate on this collection. Cat found in the knitting of Portuguese wool the material to give genuine expression to her lifestyle in close contact with nature, registering it through her photographic gaze. Her work led us to know better this art, having been crucial in the design of patterns and in the selection of colours and raw materials.
With this collection, we reiterate our commitment to deliver environmental friendly products: we continue to use raw materials that are free of any harmful substances and increased our range of items made of organic cotton. All the dyes that we use are based on natural pigments and, as a novelty, we have introduced specific recycled materials in some selected garments.
